The Niner Noise Podcast has been busy the last few weeks trying to put the San Francisco 49ers’ 2024 season behind them, just like the team is doing behind the scenes.
That’s why the focus of two of the last three episodes has been on the moves the Niners can make in free agency with the new league year set to start on March 12 at 4 p.m. ET time.
First, on episode 220 that aired on Feb. 27, your hosts looked at the long list of free agents the 49ers have inside the building, including key members of past teams like linebacker Dre Greenlaw, cornerback Charvarius Ward, and safety Talanoa Hufanga.
You can listen to the full episode below:
The focus is on whom the 49ers should try to keep heading into 2025 and what players might price themselves out of a new deal in San Francisco or can be easily replaced by new offseason acquisitions.
Much of that conversation centers on Greenlaw, who is coming off an injury-plagued 2024 after tearing his Achilles tendon in the Super Bowl the previous February, and so was only featured in two games before being shut down again.
Greenlaw has proved himself to be a tone-setting player for the Niners’ defense, which capitulated to the Kansas City Chiefs offense, particularly tight end Travis Kelce, considerably more after the linebacker left the game. The linebacker’s absence, both as a player and a vocal presence, was felt throughout 2024.
Whether he’ll have a market remains to be seen, but the pod’s conclusion is pretty clear on the subject, so tune in a find out where they stand on the issue.
On episode 222, which was released on March 7, the focus turns to free-agent options outside of the building, as this offseason features a massive list of potential impact players available on the open market.
Check out that episode below:
Players like Joey Bosa, Khalil Mack, Davante Adams, and many more enter into the conversation, although the caveat made is that who knows what these players will be looking for or how the market will shake out, considering the bulk of options out there this offseason.
