Arsenal target Viktor Gyokeres can’t stop scoring for Sporting CP
Among the Gunners’ targets this summer, Arsenal links to Viktor Gyokeres have simply refused to go away.
The 26-year-old Sweden international scored a ridiculous 43 goals in all competitions for Sporting CP last season, his debut campaign in Portugal.
And in this new season, despite its infancy, Gyokeres has now already managed to score six goals in three games, netting a superb hat-trick against Farense on Friday evening.
Arsenal will have to pay Gyokeres’ release clause to sign him this month, which is believed to stand at around £86m.
But perhaps on the evidence of his scoring, that could still represent value for Arteta’s side, who are hoping to beat Manchester City to the title.
Perhaps Arsenal’s meeting with Aston Villa on Saturday will go a long way to dictating the mood in north London ahead of Deadline Day.
If Arsenal win emphatically then talk of buying a striker might ease among the fan base.
However, if Unai Emery’s side thwart Arsenal once again, with the away side either failing to score or wasting chances, there could be a lot of pressure on Edu and his team.
That being said, Mikel Arteta is expected to make two changes to his Arsenal team to face Villa on Saturday evening.
