Jurrien Timber to make first Arsenal appearance in eight months in huge injury boost

Jurrien Timber will take his biggest step towards a first team comeback on Monday afternoon.

Timber, 21, has travelled with Arsenal ’s under-21 team to play in a Premier League 2 fixture at Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park. Dutch defender Timber is expected to get minutes as he steps up his recovery after his knee injury nightmare.

Timber suffered a serious knee ligament injury on his Premier League debut for Arsenal against Nottingham Forest last August.

That has kept him out until now but he has stepped up his recovery into training, joined in with team mates and will now go through match action on his next steps.

There is still a hope the versatile Holland international could play for Arsenal’s first team before the end of the season.

Gunners first team boss Mikel Arteta said on Friday: “He’s going to play a game with the under-21s and after that, we will see better where he is, how he felt.

“He looks really good in training, but it’s that last step now. We need to have the certainty that he’s ready to go.”
