Arsenal and Celtic are two of the biggest clubs in Europe and Chris Sutton has suggested one current Gunner would be ideal for the Scottish club.
Celtic ended up winning the league under Brendan Rodgers, while Arsenal just fell short of the Premier League title under Mikel Arteta.
Both teams, then, are keen to improve over the summer and it remains to be seen just what new signings are made at either club.
Chris Sutton, of course, is someone who knows plenty about Celtic and what they might need.
And speaking about the potential for Celtic to bring back former left-back Kieran Tierney, Sutton has suggested that sort of deal will take some big support from Arsenal.
Chris Sutton shares verdict on Kieran Tierney returning to Celtic from Arsenal
Speaking for the Daily Record about a potential return for the likes of Odsonne Edouard and Kieran Tierney, Sutton believes it will take a lot of give from Arsenal and Palace to see those deals done.
“Let’s face it, that will put him way beyond Celtic’s means. Tierney is in exactly the same boat. I suspect he will be back at the club one day but unless it’s some kind of loan deal where Arsenal are feeling generous, then it’s not going to be any time soon,” Sutton said.
“Tierney has had some injury problems but he’s a proven performer at the very top level. He’s done the business in the Premier League and impressed on occasions in Spain last season with Real Sociedad.
“He’s another one on big money and he won’t be short of offers in England or abroad if Arsenal decide to let him go.”
Tierney back at Celtic would make sense eventually
Arsenal paid £25m to sign Tierney and there was a period where it very much looked like he’d be the Gunners’ left-back for years to come.
However, it didn’t quite work out in the end and you have to commend Tierney for going to Spain and making a success of things in recent times.
As Sutton says, the wages involved might be a problem and Celtic would indeed be reliant on Arsenal giving them a bit of a helping hand when it comes those wages.
Tierney, then, could be waiting some time to return to the club.
