Arsenal news: Lautaro Martinez addresses transfer rumours as Mikel Arteta concerns emerge

Arsenal missed out on winning the Premier League by just two points last season and they are now fully focused on mounting another title bid next season.

The Gunners have made great progress under Mikel Arteta and will be looking to significantly strengthen their squad in the summer transfer window. A striker is on Arsenal’s radar, while reinforcements in midfield and defence are also being explored.

There are expected to be a number of outgoings as well, with the Gunners keen to raise funds and players looking for more game time. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Arsenal news.

Martinez addresses future

Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez, who has been linked with a potential move to Arsenal, has spoken out about his future.

Martinez’s current deal is due to expire in 2026 and Arsenal are said to be monitoring his ongoing contract talks with Inter, amid reports the two parties remain far apart in wages. However, the 26-year-old has insisted they are “close” to agreeing a deal.

“We are getting close, there are a couple of things missing,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “I said ‘this week” because the season will end and because I want to fix everything before the Copa America.”

Vieira concerns

According to a report from the Athletic, Arsenal midfielder Fabio Vieira could be sold this summer as Arteta is not happy with his performances in training.

Vieira made just three Premier League appearances after returning from a groin injury and has not started for Arsenal since their 3-1 defeat to West Ham in the League Cup back in November, with it claimed his displays in training have ‘not enabled him to sustain his position in Arteta’s pecking order’.

As a result, it is claimed Vieira could leave the club this summer. However, his future may depend on Emile Smith Rowe’s as it is unlikely Arsenal will sell both players.

Sambi Lokonga speaks out

Fellow Arsenal midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga has revealed he is set to leave the club on a permanent basis this summer.

Lokonga spent the season on loan at Luton and told BBC Three Counties Radio: “For me, I had a discussion with Arsenal and the conclusion was the best thing for me was to leave the club, so now it’s up to my agent and the club to find something.
